We’ve written a lot about leaf blowers here – how to use them, how to be safe with them, what the best leaf blowers are to buy, and more.  But today is a fun and hopefully useful post on 8 ways you can use a leaf blower aside from the core use of blowing leaves.

1) Clearing Snow

Hate shoveling snow?  I’d say most of us do, at least to some extent.  If the snow is powdery enough, a powerful leaf blower can make that snow disappear rather quickly.

2) Clearing Out Your Gutters

If you have trees taller than your house, chances are your gutters are clogged up with leaves.  This can cause water to pool up on your roof, which causes rot which causes you to need to replace part of your roof.  A leaf blower can clear those leaves out really quickly.  But of course, don’t be an idiot – make sure you have solid footing and ideally a lightweight blower when doing this.  The Wise Handyman will not be held responsible for stupidity while blowing leaves off roofs.

3) Lifting a Hovercraft

My son is in middle school, and his most recent science project was a hovercraft.  The instructions called for a vacuum cleaner, but he decided to take it up a notch and use one of dad’s old leaf blowers.  Of course he won first place.

5) Cleaning up After a Party

If you have a tailgate or BBQ that gets a bit out of hand – solo cups, paper plates, beer cans and who knows what else strewn all over the place – break out that blower and blow all the debris into a corner for easy pickup.

6) Drying Your Car

If you’ve spend an hour scrubbing your car the last thing you want is streaks from the water taking too long to dry.  Sure, you could take it for a drive or spend time with a microfiber rag drying it up.  Or you could break out the trusty leaf blower and dry your car in a matter of minutes.

7) Cleaning the Inside of Your Car

We haven’t done this before, but a Lawnmowerforum.com user carl22 says “My mother-in-law uses her leaf blower to clean out the inside of her truck. She says it’s much better than vacuuming or sweeping. Just put away any important papers and such, and turn it on. Things afterwards will be a bit dusty, so the inside of the truck will need a quick wipe-down.”
